• Ophtalmoscopy (slit lamp examination) to evaluate the anterior and posterior chamber of the eye and the fundus of the eye
• Tonometry (intraocular pressure measurement)
• Fluorescein test (staining to detect corneal defects)
• Schirmer tear test (checking tear production)
• Specimen collection for bacteriological, virological or mycological examinations
• Ultrasound examination (to assess the fundus of the eye if slit lamp examination is not possible due to constriction of the pupil or opacity of the cornea).
• X-ray examination (in case of suspicion of bony changes in the orbit or in the area of the nasolacrimal duct)
• Catheter for irrigation of the nasolacrimal duct

Conservative therapy of eye diseases can often be performed with eye ointments or eye drops. If the administration of eye ointment or eye drops locally into the conjunctival sac is not possible, a so-called subpalpebral catheter (catheter on the upper eyelid) can be inserted in the equine clinic Bilsen, through which the medication can be applied. Eye diseases often require intensive care and frequent application of medication. If this cannot be guaranteed at home, an inpatient stay with us is a possibility.
